Playing again without losing the week
Limits hold when they are shaped like sessions rather than hours, set before you sit down, and enforced by something outside your own head. Here is what to watch for when they stop holding.

Sleep, work and getting your day back
Fix the wake time first and let the bedtime follow. Get the machine out of the bedroom. Expect two or three bad nights in the middle, because that is the part that makes people give up.

Where to get help for gaming disorder
There is an NHS clinic for this, it takes self-referrals, and most people have never heard of it. Alongside it sit free peer routes, and each one treats a different thing.

Loot boxes, progression and the hooks
Open your game and list which retention mechanics it runs: streaks, expiring passes, timers, rotating shops, no natural ending. Naming them will not disarm them, but it changes what you are arguing with.

You played for nine hours. What now?
Today is already spent. Eat, get outside, hold your normal wake time tomorrow, and write down two facts about what happened. Do not make a new rule while you feel like this.

What the game is actually giving you
Games usually supply one of four things: competence, structure, company, or a reliable way to stop thinking. Work out which one is yours, because removing the game without replacing it rarely holds.

The first week without gaming
Fill the exact hours you used to play, not the day in general. Expect to be irritable and bored in the evenings, and expect your sleep to be strange before it gets better.

Telling the people you play with
Say it once, in about three sentences, without a reason you have to defend. Then expect the pull back, and have somewhere for those friendships to live that is not the game.

Uninstalling without losing your friends
Move the people off the platform before you uninstall, then put enough steps between you and the reinstall that it takes an hour instead of ninety seconds.

Stopping mid-session when you cannot
Stop queuing rather than stop playing, tell your team at the start which game is your last, and put the exit somewhere your tired self cannot quietly cancel it.

Is my gaming a problem?
The recognised criteria are impaired control, gaming taking priority over everything else, and continuing despite harm, normally for at least twelve months. Hours are not on the list.

How to stop gaming all night
Three changes make an all-nighter harder to start: the machine leaves the bedroom, the stop point gets set before you launch, one person knows the time.
